| "Stories that are
actually concerned primarily with "fairies," that is with creatures that might
also in modern English be called "elves," are relatively rare, and as a rule not
very interesting. Most good "fairy-stories" are about the adventures of
men in the Perilous Realm or upon its shadowy marches. Naturally so; for if elves
are true, and really exist independently of our tales about them, then this also is
certainly true: elves are not primarily concerned with us, nor we with them. Our
fates are sundered, and our paths seldom meet. Even upon the borders of Faërie we
encounter them only at some chance crossing of the ways." -JRRT |

Flowinglass Music* is proud to announce the release of The Starlit
Jewel, a new cd featuring songs from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and The
Hobbit, with music written by Marion Zimmer Bradley, bestselling author of The Mists of
Avalon. The Celtic and Medieval-flavored song settings are performed by the
band Broceliande, on harp, pipes, vocals, and other Middle Earth instruments. This cd is
fully authorized by the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien. For ordering information and sound
files, please visit
the website. *Editor's note: I
know this has been out for a while, but since I haven't been keeping up with what new cd
releases are available, I figured I'd post this for you all.
I've added a new artist to the gallery - Rodney Matthews. I'd like to thank Suvit
Singhsachakul for sending these images.

Apologies to those who have tried to download the new
audio files I posted yesterday. There was a problem with the links, but
I have fixed them and they are now accessible. If you continue to have problems, let
me know.

I've added some new audio files
(actually, a cd's worth), and will be adding more later this week.
This month holds a lot of changes for the
Archives. February 15 I will be moving the site to a new host, eUniverse.com.
This will entail moving the entire 350+ MB to the new server. In addition, I will
have to point the domain to the new host, which will take 36-48 hours to propogate
throughout the world's DNS servers. Hopefully this will be a painless and
problem-free process, but the very best time will be at least two days' downtime.
I've slacked off somewhat adding new material to the site, but will continue to do as much
as I can as time warrants. I appreciate all the supportive emails I've received and
if I have failed to write back to each of you, let me know - I get a lot of emails a day,
and sometimes I lose track.
I will be thinking once again about a
slight site redesign - with the new host I will be required to have banner advertisements
(which I hope doesn't turn any of you away) and I may try and tailor the site to better
accomodate banner space usage. I'll certainly let you know what I decide to do, and
if anyone of you has suggestions for me, please let me know.

Unfortunately, I've had to take down the movie section, due to lack of time for
updates. The huge amount of information is well covered by other sites like Tolkien Movies, TheOneRing.net, and LordoftheRings.net. I encourage
you to visit these sites for all movie information.

Added Russian verse to the Ring Verse Linguistic section -
what a fabulous thing it is to see all those languages! Please continue to send in your artwork and
"text"work as well - essays, poems, short stories - they're eagerly welcome
here!

Added a totally new section in the art gallery, which I will be adding to as the
weeks continue - this is a whole gallery of Tolkien artwork (and not just Lord of the
Rings). The first section features Tolkien's early artwork.
Added two more images by Zelax in the Fanworks > Drawings/Sketches
section...enjoy!

I've added a bunch of poems to the Poetry
section. I still haven't come up with a cleaner design, so for now, I've just got
them in alphabetic order. Enjoy!

I changed the poll, and also took
away the popup window - everything now loads on the main page. You can also view the
previous poll results.
I've added a new feature to the Archives - a chat room! This is courtesy of irc.damaged.net.
Please contact Allard Mulder
if you experience any problems.

I've posted a new essay on the Lady Eowyn - it's an excellent read and I'm sure
you will enjoy it. Check it out
here...
I've got an anonymous FTP service running, with many
downloadables for you to choose from - I have MP3's and movies, and will eventually get
around to storing all manner of items there - however, feel free to browse it and download
anything you'd like. Also, feel free to upload any Tolkien-related item you wish,
just so long as you notify me by email that you have done so. I recommend using an
ftp client such as CuteFTP or WS FTP, but you can also browse through the internet by clicking here. |
